Craig Lockard is Ben and Joyce Rosenberg Professor of History in the Department of Social Change and Development at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where he teaches courses on Asian, African, comparative, and world history. He has twice been a Fulbright professor at the University of Malaya. Dr. Lockard earned his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Southeast Asian and comparative world history in 1973, and his M.A. in Asian Studies from the University of Hawai`i in 1967. His books include Lands of Green, Waters of Blue: Southeast Asia in World History (Oxford University Press, 2006); “Dance of Life”: Popular Music and Politics in Modern Southeast Asia (University of Hawai`i Press, 1998); Reflections of Change: Sociopolitical Commentary and Criticism in Malaysian Popular Music Since 1950 (Crossroads, 1991); and From Kampung to City: A Social History of Kuching, Malaysia, 1820-1970 (Ohio University, 1987). He is currently completing a world history textbook for Houghton Mifflin.
